The Eagles hit the buffers once again as the Vikings freeze the birds in Minnesota.
In what’s becoming a new rivalry, the Eagles and the Vikings played a superb game of football at the place where the Eagles endured their finest hour when they took Super Bowl LII. In the run-up to the game, Zach Brown called Vikings’ QB Kirk Cousins the weakest part of the Vikings offense. In this match-up, Brown’s prediction would come back to bite him on the backside.
While Cousins had a career day as he slung for four touchdowns, Carson Wentz looked like he had lost the use of his arms in the first half of the ball game as the offensive line crumbled like the Berlin Wall.
Neither the Eagles’ offense nor the defense could handle the Vikings in the first half as they powered to a three-touchdown lead approaching the half. Wentz salvaged a crumb of hope for the Eagles with a touchdown pass to Miles Sanders to cut the gap to 14.
The second half saw a mini-comeback from the Eagles as Wentz drove the Eagles down the field before finding Agholor to get the Eagles within seven of the Vikings. Jake Elliot put the Eagles within four after nailing a 40-yard field goal but that was good as it got for Philly as Cousins and co. ran riot to score 14 more unanswered points. That takes the Vikings’ record to 4-2 while the Eagles fall to 3-3.
Vikings top performer
Considering he was seen as trash as the game week rolled around, Kirk Cousins made the Eagles’ defense choke on their words like a badly chopped cheese-steak as he threw for four touchdowns in a vintage performance.
Eagles top performer
It would be too easy to say that the Eagles’ best performer of the week was the New York Jets after their defeat of the Cowboys(!), but in defense of Wentz, the Eagles would have lost by about 50 if it weren’t him. He and Miles Sanders kept the Eagles in with a shout.
The first test of the Eagles has been failed. They should be thankful the Jets did them a favour, otherwise the panic buttons would have been pressed.
